I look forward to reading the Catholic News Herald as soon as it arrives in my mailbox, yet when I saw the article “Biden leads nation in mourning its 500,000 COVID-19 deaths” it gave me pause followed by nausea.

The photograph of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and their spouses standing outside the White House, socially distanced and wearing masks, was odd. Why wear masks when they are six feet apart and able to breath fresh air? One would think that for such an important speech to the nation he, at least, would show his face. Then, it all made sense.

Here are the representatives of an administration that is the most abortion-focused we have seen in decades, speaking words about a “heartbreaking milestone” of 500,000 COVID-19 deaths while behind the scenes that administration has initiated strategies that will take the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent unborn children – without one word of regret.

Biden’s words about “we must resist viewing each life as a statistic or a blur on the news” just don’t ring true when he doesn’t flinch about 3,000-plus scheduled abortion deaths each day. Either all human life is sacred or not. Why not light candles for the millions of human lives lost to abortion? Or are those babies just statistics?
