In their Nazareth home, the Holy Family engaged in many forms of work – experiencing joys, worries and sorrows just as we do today. Although we are called to model the Holy Family in dedicating our work to God, it can be easy to get lost in our to-do lists at home and beyond. However, we can all turn the work we do into “holy labor,” pushing through the anguish of the day-to-day and, through prayer, turning our work into a glorification of God. In honor of Labor Day, here are three September saints whose work brought glory to God:

090624 CAW MotherSt. Teresa of Calcutta, better known as Mother Teresa, is famous for her work with the poorest of the poor in India. Many joined her mission, but she also recognized that not all are called to this kind of work, emphasizing the need to love those closest to us first: “Whatever you do for your family, your children, your husband, your wife, you do for God. All we do, our prayers, our work, our suffering, is for Jesus.” Celebrate St. Teresa of Calcutta’s Sept. 5 feast day by watching “Mother Teresa: No Greater Love.”
