GREENSBORO — Our Lady of Grace Parish held its inaugural Midsummer Festival June 22 to celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, prior to the June 24 feast day. Old-fashioned fun and games such as a pig pickin’ potluck, bluegrass music, pie eating contest, sack races, egg carrying sprints, and wheelbarrow races reminded older parishioners of bygone fun at parish events in North Carolina. Children rushed from event to event with faces wide with smiles and sticky with lemonade. After the vigil Mass, Rebekah Zomberg, head of the parish’s Family Life Council, presented Father Casey Coleman and Father Joseph Wasswa with funds raised by the parish for each of them to travel on pilgrimage this summer.
