032723 leonardHIGH POINT — Dr. Maryanne Leonard is officially stepping into the role as principal at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in High Point after having served as interim principal for the past nine months, the Catholic Schools Office announced this week.

Leonard is an experienced Catholic educator with a deep connection to the IHM community. Before becoming interim principal, she served as IHM’s lead middle school English Language Arts teacher. Previous experience includes serving as teacher, curriculum facilitator and reading specialist for Guilford County Schools as well as stints as an adjunct professor at both Walden University and UNC-Greensboro.

She holds a doctoral degree in curriculum instruction and supervision from UNC-Greensboro, as well as multiple degrees from the College of New Rochelle in New York.

"I cannot say enough about the respectful and thoughtful process that was used to discern my place as principal," Leonard said. "This past year, we turned a page at IHM, and I look forward to continued collaboration with the community to secure and enhance our focus on faith, tradition, and excellence with Jesus at the center of all we do."

032123 BMCHS signingGrace Harriman, Chrisbel Alcantara-Varela, Tate Chappell and Tanner Cave signed letters of intent on March 21.KERNERSVILLE — On March 21, four student-athletes from Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School signed letters of intent to play for a variety of colleges. With their families at their side, the students enjoyed this milestone moment, a culmination of years of training and hard work playing for volleyball, lacrosse and basketball teams. The high school plans to hold another college signing event in May for more of its student-athletes.

Chrisbel Alcantara-Varela, accompanied by her family members Cristian Alcántara, Arlene Varela, and Christian Alcántara, signed to play volleyball with Guilford College in Greensboro.

Tanner Cave, accompanied by his parents, Alea and Chris Cave, signed to play lacrosse at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn.

Tate Chappell, accompanied by her sister Charley and parents, Joy and Steve, signed to play basketball as an invited walk-on at Appalachian State University in Boone.

Grace Harriman, accompanied by her father, Mike Harriman, signed to play basketball at Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach, Va.
