ASHEBORO — The emotional drama of Jesus’ crucifixion and death was made real on Good Friday thanks to members of St. Joseph Parish, who presented a live Passion Play – Vía Crucis Viviente – featuring more than a hundred performers.
Jesus, Roman soldiers wielding spears and whips, the Pharisees and priests of the Temple, Mary and the weeping women of Jerusalem, Herod and Pilate – the reenactment in a field near the Asheboro Regional Airport featured all the people in the biblical story of the Passion.
Each of the 14 Stations of the Cross was solemnly portrayed for the large crowd to witness, from Jesus being condemned to death to His body being taken down from the cross and prepared for burial.
The popular devotion offered a profound reflection on Jesus’ final days and the enduring message of His sacrifice.
